Trivia

According to the Soccer Spirits art book, Malcolm's age is 15 and his favorite thing is cats.

Etymology

Malcolm is a Scottish Gaelic given name meaning "devotee of Saint Columba".

Malcolm's character could be a reference to the Malcolm in Jame Purdy's novel Malcolm. The novel tells of a very rich, young, innocent and attractive teenager. He meets an old astrologer who tricks the boy into meeting strangers who fall for his good looks and bring him to bed each time. Eventually the boy is led to his death by the last person he meets. Similarly, Malcolm's lore informs the player that he is visited by Veramod who proposes to him, making him abandon his position as a knight of a kingdom. Malcolm's expensive and skimpy attires may be further allusions to the attractive and rich teenager in the novel.

Malcolm may also be a reference to the Malcolm in Shakespeare's Macbeth, who becomes the ruler of Scotland at the end of the play. The unit Malcolm wears increasingly expensive clothing and obtains a crown and cape at the end of his final evolution, which may hint that Malcolm becomes the ruler of a certain group of people after he joins Veramod.

Developer’s Comment: Malcolm's case is also similar to the previous characters above which shows low usability. So, we've adjusted his third passive skill by increasing the amount of spirit damage.

June 12th 2019 Patch Notes

Malcolm's power will be downgraded while his technique and speed will be upgraded.

Sadistic Plays II > Parasensory

Previously: Increases the attack power by 30% and action speed by 20% for 6 min. with an action. (Accumulates up to 4 times)
Changed to: Recovers 30% of the action bar with an attack and increases the attack power by 30% for each target. (The recovered action bar will not go over 80%)

Super Play > Coercion II

Previously: Decreases the inflicted damage by 50% with a 60% chance with an attack and gets another turn
Changed to: Decreases the reflex by 40% of the enemies currently in the assigned position.

Developer’s Comment: Lucius has been balanced so that he can be distinguished more clearly from Malcolm. Lucius has been balanced so he can have greater effect in matches while Malcolm has been balanced to be more powerful in vertical lines. Malcolm will be subject to recall as his concept will differ greatly from the original concept.

Insanity Illusion III

Previously: [Penetrate] Increases the Attack Power by 70% and recovers by 40% of the inflicted damage
Changed to: [Penetration] Increases the Attack Power by 35% and recovers 15% of the damage dealt. (Accumulates up to 3 times.) (The effect only applies to the Penetration done with the Active Skill), Cooldown: 3 min.

Sadistic Play II

Previously: Increases the Attack Power by 30% and Action Speed by 20% for 6 min with an Attack. (Accumulates up to 5 times)
Changed to: Increases the Attack Power by 30% and Action Speed by 20% for 6 min. with an Action. (Accumulates up to 4 times)

Developer’s Comment: The Active Skill has been changed to maximize the synergy with other Passive Skills. Also, the maximum number of stacks may have decreased, but in return we made it easier to trigger the Passive Skill.
